Looking inside the base settings

A few general remarks:

  • To unset a parameter you leave the edit field empty, tick the transfer box and send it to the module.
  • you can enter whatever you want into the edit fields, only those, were the checkbox is ticked will be really sent

  • SMS No.
This is the Number we will send our configuration SMS to.
The number of the SIM card which is inside this GPRS module
  • Predefined Providers
There are many predefined providers set in the app.
You just need to select first the country you are in, then try to find the provider of the used sim card.
The moment you press on "Apply" the data will be set.
This has been a design decision, because I found it to dangerous to directly change the settings while you are going through the combo boxes.
Now you can search the predefined providers without touching anything inside your parameters.
Predefined are usually APN data, SMS center numbers, and MCC (if known).
Of course you can still enter your own data.
  • P3 SMS Center
The module is not that clever, like a smart phone e.g.
You need to find out the SMS center number first (or use one of the predefined ones).
There are some resources in the web, for example here.
  • P2 MCC
MCC = Mobile Country Code, this is a code which defines exactly the provider.
If P2 has been set, the module will only try to connect to this provider and ignores any other.
    This also prevents roaming costs.
Please have a look at this link.
You can also use P2 to find out the signal strength!
Just send an unknown MCC, like 99999 to the module, as soon as the module awakes (the second time I guess) it will try to select this unknown MCC and will react with an Alarm SMS (need P7 and/or P8 set!) providing the current signal strength.
But make sure to unset it later, otherwise this might end up in unexpected behaviour.
  • P10 APN
    APN = Access Point Name.
This is the gateway between your GPRS module and the internet.
If the APN is not set correctly, the module can't connect to the internet and will not be able to send mails.
This might be a good start to look it up in case it hasn't been predefined.
  • APN User / Pass
This belongs to the APN, usually it is not really needed, but in case you got a private APN from your provider, user name and password is mandatory.
  • P13 DNS Server
The module will find this on it's own, there should be no need to enter it.

  • P7 / P8 SMS Alarm
You can enter SMS receivers here, which will get alarm SMS (if alarms happen)
Those receivers will not see measurements, only alarms!
  • P9 Value Receiver
This SMS number will receive SMS with totalizer settings.
Please read also description of P52!
  • P52 Transmission mode
There are different modes available which also depend on the GPRS-module version.
Please be aware that SMS is always the way with the least priority (when talking about measurements)!
This means if you set it to "Email & SMS", SMS will only be sent, if the email couldn't get delivered.
  • P51 Ident String
Here you select how the subject line of the emails will look like.
By default it is set to the serial number, emails will then have the subject line:
    MAG8000: 123456H123
To have a better chance to distinguish different MAGs, you can set also an IDENT or LOCATION string (you do this in the MAG8000 via flow tool or PDM).
  • P53 Analog Input
    You can add a 4...20mA sensor and/or a 0.5 ... 4.5V ratiometric pressure transducer to the MAG8000.
If so, please activate the input.
  • P54 Extended Input
This has been added since the Firmwareupdate in January 2017.
Modules with older firmware are not aware of this parameter and will respond with an ERROR SMS!
Therefore this parameter is disabled by default, you need to tell the App, that this is a newer firmware in the "other" settings.
    Explanation of P54:
This setting is for activation of tamper and flooding detection (via the 4...20mA input)
The module will monitor the analog current input at each data collection (P55=1min, is required for this feature). The analog current input is generated by the external device provided by customers.
    - 0mA = normal
    - 4mA = tamper alarm
    - 20mA = flooding alarm

  • P4 - P6 Master Numbers
The SMS numbers which will get set as P4...P6 are the masters.
If one of those has been set, than only SMS from those numbers will be accepted.
I usually suggest to set those numbers not before anything has been configured correctly and anything is working.
Because if you make a typo in the number you might lock yourself out.
Sending P4=; will not work to unset it! You need to send the clear whitelist command!
